Available Coaching Clinics

The National Coaches Certification Program and Baseball Canada have begun their transition to the new NCCP with a new online program for Initiation Coaches.
This valuable program consists an online component and an on-field clinic. All coaches must complete the online component before attending the clinic.
The online component walks coaches through skill outlines, links to hundreds of video drills, and multiple choice exams, and prepares coaches for the on field clinic.

Batting Instruction

G.M.B.A. Fall/Winter Batting Program in “the cage”

Coach Grumpy is coming back for a fifth winter batting program in our GMBA Batting Facility. However, he is only available on Saturdays. We are once again offering Tadpole and Girls’ Softball sessions! Check out the details below and sign up fast — spots will fill quickly!

The Winter sessions begin on Saturday January 15, 2011 and will continue through to March 19 (a total of 10 more sessions)

These are one hour sessions, maximum eight batters per session.

Costs for the Jan.-March (Winter) program: $ 150.00

Note:

• Programs must be paid in full at the commencement of the program: cheques payable to Pat Phelan.
• This is incredible value!
• We hope to incorporate a pitching component at Gibsons Elementary School in late January.

In terms of our G.M.B.A. Batting Cage Facility…will it be cold in that ole’ barn? Don’t fret, we have winterized the facility and we will have comfortable conditions in there this year. But to be on the safe side, athletes should come dressed for activity in a cool environment: layers on top, sweatpants and batting gloves are all a good idea. Bring water and a favourite bat.

• 11:30-12:30 Mosquitoes/Pee Wee
• 12:30-1:30 Girls SoftBall

• 2:00-3:00 Bantams/Midgets (grades 8-12)
• 3:00-4:00 Tadpole (Grades 2/3)

We will offer a drop-in component depending on available space. Drop-in fee is $17.00/session.

Pat Phelan (Coach Grumpy)

Born in New Westminister, B,C., raised in Coquitlam B.C. Began playing baseball as a catcher at the age of 8. Played competitive baseball to age 23 and moved into competitive fast-pitch. Retired as a player at age 43. Began coaching at age 16 and continues to date.

Some of his Highlights as a Player:

• 1974 – Western Canadian Juvenile Champions-Whalley Chiefs
• 1975-76 – Yakima Valley Community College (NWAACC) Champions
• 1976-77 NWAACC Tournament-All-star catcher, Mr. Hustle, MVP: YVCC-Defensive player of the year
• 1977 – Championship team inducted into NWAACC Hall of Fame-May 29, 2003
• 1977 Canada Games Gold Medalist representing B.C.
